'Important Things' on Defense

Talking about Basketball, it is not only talking about offense, there are something called defense. Yes... offense can give you a game winning, but deffence give you a championship!
So many team can easily play basketball offense so good, but not on defense. It's little hard to play a good defense for teams. So, how to play good basketball defense?
There are some important things that should be aware when you are playing on defense position. These things concern your position in the private area of a man with the ball. This is about the situation which a defender must be focus to a man with the ball in front of him.
The defensive man should make that man in worry to dribbles, passes, or shoot the ball.
These important things on defense are: body balance, hands' position, fake, forcing, steal, and focus.
Focus is most important. If you aren't focus to guard your opponents, he will easily cross you away or can easily make shots without doubt. So, otherwise you will give him more confident to play that game.
Body Balance
Most coaches seems to call their defensive player to get in lower crouch than the players that their are guarding. But most players, it seems want to stand erect. So, how low should you be? A rules are: Make sure your head is always lower than the head of the guy you are guarding, and keep a good balance of you body by reaming your leg (don't stretch too wide).
Hands' position
All Coaches want their defender to put their HANDS UP! Because it will distracts the offense. YOU are in a better position to guard against a shot or deflect a pass. Players, invariably, want to play with their hands at their sides.
This is understandable. It's easier to move with hands at your side. In guarding the ball, there are times you want your "Hands UP" and there is times, they are better "Down."
If you are guarding a dribbler, YOUR hands DO NOT have to be up. They should be DOWN, faking at the ball, or HELPING YOUR BODY to stay on BALANCE and in POSITION.
So, when should put your hands up? Put your hands up in the situations that the offense players are too close to you or when he is trying to shoot the ball.
Important! NEVER RAISE YOUR BODY UP TO BLOCK THE PASS OR SHOT OF A PLAYER WHO HAS NOT YET DRIBBLED! Stay low. Keep your weight back. Stay in that bubble. SLAP UPWARD from the waist if he is OUT OF SHOOTING position, or SHAKE YOUR HAND over the shoulder if HE IS IN SHOOTING POSITION.
Fake, forcing and steal
Fake the offense player by letting him to dribble to corner sides of court. Give a space to him to dribble to left or right corner side of the court, then try to force him to grab the ball with two hands so it will stop his dribbles. When that situation is possible, your teammates can coming to help you (double team) to make him worry and you should try to slap or steal his ball.
Focus
Always remember this:
A players with the ball can do 3 things:
1. SHOOT
2. PASS
3. DRIBBLE to the left or to the right side of you.
You must focus by taking two of these three things away from him. So you can battle him for the third, fake him to the corner side.
Remember to calm down and ALWAYS keeping your focus of the ofense players and the ball! If you calm down and focus, you should minimize a fouls call and not be worry to take the fouls. Make your self a good confident in defense!
If you had too good in this situations, i suggest you to learn about BLOCKING SHOTS!
Good Luck!
