The First Freshman's AP Player of the Year

They selected Kevin Durant of Texas to The Associated Press' college basketball player of the year on Friday, he doing the first student of first year to receive the honor.
The 6 foot-9 forward finished fourth in the country in scoring (25.8) and rebound (11.1) whereas it leads the sound locators of great horns to a 25-10 record, the great game of the championship of 12 matches and to the second round one of the NCAA match. "He carried a very young team but never looked at it that way," Texas coach's Rick Barnes said this. "He has such a great feel for the game. He knows what he has to do to get better. He knows he has to get stronger. He is a real person. I truly believe he will make his mark not just on college basketball, but on basketball."
Durant received all but two votes for the player of the year of the national panel of 72 means of the member that selects weekly cover 25. Front Alando greater Tucker de Wisconsin, great player ten of the year, obtained the other two votes.
"I just hope I'm paving the way for other freshmen, to let them know you can compete," Durant said this.
Durant was a unanimous selection for the equipment of the AP Everything-America, and center Greg Oden of the state it and Ohio was right the third and quarters students of first year who will select themselves to the first equipment. Durant was jealous of Oden, that will play Saturday against Georgetown.
"This is a great honor, but I'd rather be in the Final Four," Durant said.
Durant, the 12 great player and freshman of the year, shot 47 percents of the field, 40 percents from the range of 3 points and 82 percents from free-throw line. He made an average of 36 minutes by game and led the Longhorns in steals and block-shots. He had 20 double-double and written down at least 30 a big 12 record in 11 times.
In five games postseason of Texas, he made an average of 28,5 points and 9,6 rebounds. He is the first player of Texas to receive the award, that first was presented in 1961.
J.J. Redick of the Duke gained the award in last season.
